Malta - Island of Sunshine

As a traveler, it is important to get to know a bit about the country you are about to visit - before booking your tickets. Malta is a famous tourist destination, popular for its beach resorts scattered all over the island. However, many are not aware that it only takes 40 minutes by bus, from the centre, to get to the nearest beach. It is well worth thinking outside the box when choosing your holiday accommodation. One of the best locations for seeing and enjoying the rest of the island is Valletta - a truly beautiful gem of a city, and a perfect place to escape from the mass tourist spots.
The island is known for its many contrasts. It has been a trade route since the Roman Empire. Malta became famous for its honey and spices, and for many a diver's culture, a settling place. It became important for its strategic position in the Mediterranean and has one of the most spectacular harbours in Europe. Malta's climate and scenery attract thousands of visitors every year, yet few visitors are attracted to its rich history and culture.
This beautiful island in the Mediterranean features many attractive landmarks and tourist attractions. However, Valletta is probably the best location to combine a bit of culture and history, a day on the beach or a boat trip to Comino and Gozo, the two sister islands.
The Blue Grotto is wave-cut - filled with a sapphire-blue light where the sun shines through its waters. This is located in the small village of Zurrieq, 30 minutes by bus from Valletta. The Neolithic temples of Hagar Qim are just a stone throw away.
Marsaxlokk is a small fishing village. This lies to the south of the island just 25 minutes from Valletta. Many tourists admire the colourful Maltese boats with their legendary evil eye found at the helm of each fishing boat - a symbol of protection against harm.
The Upper Barracca Gardens in Valletta overlook the Grand Harbour, just like a huge panoramic balcony.
The Blue Lagoon has truly magnificent blue waters, found at the small island of Comino. Ferry boats leave across the harbour.
Gozo is the second largest island. One of its highlights is the Cittadella in Victoria - a charming town with stunning views of the whole island.
Mdina is Malta's old capital situated on one of the island's highest points. This tiny walled city dates back to the Arab rule and you can still feel the influence of Arab architecture especially in the street layouts. It is said that beneath the structure of the cathedral lies the foundations of an Arab mosque. Palazzo Falson is also located in Mdina.
Browsing the net for the best places to visit you can find a wide list of interesting places to see and a calendar of events. For an affordable vacation with a difference, we recommend you book your next trip at one of our Valletta Suites. It is always worth booking ahead of time as both suites are generally booked well in advance.
